When we turn the handle of a hand-cranked food processor, something wonderful happens.
Our bodies create motion.
That motion travels through the tool.
And whole fruits or vegetables transform before our eyes —
from big pieces…
to tiny bits…
to smooth, delicious dip.
It’s science you can taste.
What’s Happening When We Turn the Handle?
1. Push & Pull = Motion
When a child or adult turns the handle, they are using muscle power –a force ( push and pull) that makes something move.
Small hands. Big impact.
2. Motion Gets Passed Along
As the handle turns, gears and blades inside begin to spin.
The blades rotate much faster than our hands can move, chopping and mixing the food into smaller and smaller pieces.
Our movement travels through the machine —
round and round —
3. Spinning Changes the Food
Big pieces → small pieces → smooth dip
This is cause and effect in action:
We turn the handle →
The blades spin →
The food changes
Children see — and feel — that their actions matter.
What Children Are Learning
(Even Without Knowing the Words)
“I can make things happen.”
Motion can be fast or slow.
