A few notes before you visit
We're so glad you're here. This space is built on curiosity, connection, and the belief that young children are capable, expert explorers of their own world. Here's what that looks like in practice — for you, for your child, and for all of us together.
Our Approach: LOCAL
Everything we do flows from one simple rhythm: Locate, Observe, Connect, Ask, Learn. We slow down, notice what's in front of us, wonder about it together, and let curiosity lead. You'll see this reflected in how we interact with children — and we hope you'll try it too.
Your Role
Your Explorer's job is to lead their own exploration and your job is to be joyfully, playfully present: say yes, get curious, get down on the floor. Try to let go of the instinct to correct or manage. Our “Expert Explorers” (staff) are there to hold the structure so you don't have to — your only job is to enjoy your child.
Words are powerful, so we use fewer of them, and we make them count. More talking often means less understanding for little ones. So we keep instructions short and always say what to do rather than what not to do — “walking feet” instead of “no running,” “gentle hands” instead of “stop that.” We'd love for you to try this too.
Stay curious, stay kind is our shorthand for friendliness and safety. We take everyone's safety and sense of belonging seriously — and we handle most of that so you're free to just play.
Play Is Social
Here, science is something we discover together —caregiver with caregiver, caregivert with child, child with child. We actively encourage collaborative play and shared wonder. If a child (or grown-up!) wants to join in, our default answer is yes. We look for ways to welcome someone in rather than reasons to say no.
This Is Your Space Too
We hope every family feels ownership here — not just as visitors, but as members of a community. We welcome your feedback and ideas for what would make this space even better. We also offer parent jobs for anyone who likes to keep their hands busy, and we're grateful for anyone who pitches in to help keep our space clean and cared for.
The Nitty-Gritty
Shoes off, please — it keeps our space clean and hygienic. If shoes need to stay on for safety or sensory reasons, that's completely fine.
Food stays in the garden — please enjoy snacks and meals outside.
Enter through the garden, and wash hands when you arrive as much as possible.
Feeling under the weather? Please stay home if you or your child has been sick within the last 24 hours — thank you for helping keep our community healthy.
Give Space, Give Grace
Every word counts — and every one of us is carrying a full load. We give each other space to learn, and we give each other grace when that learning is messy. None of us, grown-up or child, is infallible. Mistakes are simply how we learn.
